Click2learn announced ToolBook Assistant 8.5, its e-learning content authoring system. ToolBook Assistant allows non-technical business users to create and distribute interactive Web content without requiring them to know how to program.

This latest version of the desktop-based software features significantly enhanced capabilities, including deeper integration with Click2learn’s Aspen 2.0 Enterprise Learning Platform, an improved Web publishing interface, improved ability to convert legacy content, more extensive support for standards such as SCORM and AICC, and greater compatibility with ToolBook Instructor 8.5, Click2learn's authoring solution designed for course developers and instructional designers.

Key Toolbook Assistant 8.5 features include:

    • Drag-and-drop interface to create and format content,
    • Catalog contains authoring objects to build interactive content-assessment objects, media players, navigation panels, and other interactive objects,
    • Ready-made business and education templates include templates for employee handbooks, sales and product training lessons, and a variety of additional templates for general training and education needs,
    • Wizard-like “Specialists” prompt users for choices about the appearance and behavior of e-learning content and assist in deploying the content to web servers,
    • Ten assessment object types including true/false, multiple choice, drag and drop, match item, essay, etc., test users on understanding of content,
    • Question Objects define the number of attempts allowed for choosing correct answers and enable the choice of multiple correct answers,
    • Multi-media support accommodates sound, a range of animation formats, digital video, streaming media and still images, including PowerPoint and Flash presentations,
    • Deployment of content options include the Internet, a company intranet, a local area network or on CD-ROM, and
    • Standards support, including SCORM, AICC, IMS, and XML, allows easy integration with Aspen or any standards-based learning management system.
