The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has deployed the InfoBasis capability management platform as part of its drive to improve organisational capability. The DWP is using InfoBasis ESM for the present to manage the competencies of over 1,000 personnel.
The web-based technology will underpin work already underway in the DWP on describing job roles, centred on the Government IT Profession. To assist in this, InfoBasis ESM will come bundled with SFIA, the Skills Framework for the Information Age, which describes the skill set required by modern IT professionals.
The DWP relies on a number of outsourced partners to meet its needs. The current initiative aims both to ensure that the Department has the skills it needs to manage outsourced suppliers, and to check that outsourced roles are not duplicated in-house.
Already the deployment has thrown up one result: an immediate need: training for about 100 IT staff in TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework).
