Talis Information has joined forces with Blackboard Inc. to break down boundaries between library information and course management systems.
Signing the agreement to join the Blackboard Developer Network, John Bennett, Business Development Manager at Talis commented, “Libraries, and the resources they manage, are important components of an effective e-learning environment. UK institutions recognise this, and many are delivering context–relevant library services directly to the students and course designers working within the virtual learning environment, with TalisList. At Talis we are committed to the interoperability of our products with the systems employed by academic institutions, and especially with key e-learning tools such as Blackboard, which is used by many of our customers.”
Through TalisList, the leading resource list management product, students and course designers working on a course in Blackboard can link directly to the prescribed resources supporting their course. Now as part of the Blackboard Developer Network, work will accelerate around enhanced links between the Blackboard Learning System™ and TalisList, and extensions to add other library services to the learning environment.
Matthew Pittinsky, Chairman at Blackboard Inc, said, “Breaking down the boundaries between library information and course management systems will deliver meaningful, visible benefits to the education environment. In working with leading library technology vendors like Talis, Blackboard will make the vision of interoperability between the Blackboard Learning System and library information systems a reality.”
