Oracle Corp. announced that British Airways is using a new, comprehensive learning offering from Oracle and Thomson NETg to create a global learning programme for its 48,000 employees that will cut operational costs and improve professional development.
The offering is the result of a development partnership between Oracle and NETg. The partnership ensures interoperability between Oracle® iLearning — an Oracle application that helps organisations manage, deliver, and track training programmes in online and classroom-based environments — and the Thomson NETg Open Learning Solution, a comprehensive offering of IT, desktop, business and professional development courses.
British Airways is using Oracle iLearning and Thomson NETg Open Learning to transform its existing training strategy into an integrated learning programme that manages hundreds of online and traditional courses for its global workforce. Oracle iLearning and Thomson NETg’s open architecture is helping British Airways cut implementation time and costs by easily connecting existing training courses and importing employee data to the new learning programme. As a result, British Airways is able to further its commitment to employee safety and professional development in a cost-effective and timely way.
“The integration of Oracle and Thomson NETg technologies is making it possible for British Airways to efficiently deploy our learning program around the world,” said Graeme Davison, Oracle iLearning Implementation Manager at British Airways. “The combined solution has provided British Airways with a comprehensive learning programme that trains our global workforce in critical areas such as baggage safety and airport security, and empowers employees to manage and track their personal training progress.”
Because Oracle iLearning is integrated with Oracle Human Resource Management System (HRMS), British Airways can track training programmes alongside other learning activity for a comprehensive view of employees’ personal and skills development growth.
Oracle iLearning’s self-service capabilities enable British Airways employees to register for courses, participate in classes, access in depth information and manage their training schedules through an intuitive online portal. All training records are stored in a single repository, allowing managers to view the training progress of employees, make adjustments to their training schedules and produce detailed reports. Thomson NETg’s award-winning, instructionally designed courseware is integrated within Oracle iLearning to provide British Airways with hundreds of advanced training programmes from one system.
Certified Interoperability
To integrate the two technologies, Oracle iLearning has been thoroughly tested in the Thomson NETg Interoperability Lab — ensuring it offers an open architecture that provides seamless deployment of Thomson NETg’s entire targeted skills courseware. Thomson NETg is also a member of the Oracle PartnerNetwork and has tested its content in Oracle’s iLearning Content Lab to verify its interoperability with existing content standards, including AICC (Airline Industry CBT Committee) and the Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) for current and future releases.
“Oracle iLearning was built from the ground up to provide both mid-sized and large companies with a complete learning management system that supports the full range of business activities associated with training and development,” said Joel Summers, senior vice president of Global HRMS and Learning Management Product Development at Oracle. “Coupled with Thomson NETg’s solution, companies can now provide employees with world class learning programmes that are easy to deploy, targeted to job roles, and aligned with organisational goals.”
Thomson NETg’s open approach to learning solutions is designed to provide global organisations with flexibility and assurance as they match learning programme components to their unique corporate goals and environments.
“An open learning environment is critical for organisations who wish to deploy online learning quickly, efficiently and effectively around the world,” said Joe Dougherty, president of Thomson NETg. “We have made a significant investment in our LMS Interoperability Lab so that our customers can save time and money, and deploy critical business skills across the enterprise quickly.”
Thomson NETg created its Interoperability Lab in 2002 in order to test and certify compatibility of it’s courses with industry-preferred third-party learning management systems. The Oracle iLearning Content Lab is designed to enable content developers and vendors to achieve, maintain and demonstrate interoperability between their content and Oracle iLearning.
