Saba announced that Daimler Chrysler has deployed Saba Enterprise Learning to drive productivity improvements in the company's global sales training operations. Daimler Chrysler Global Training relies on Saba to support both the development of sales and post-sales training programs and the administration of its learning population. There are currently approximately 60,000 training events managed with Saba Enterprise Learning on an annual basis.

There are two components of Daimler Chrysler's initial deployment of Saba Enterprise Learning. The first involves the certification of instructors in the global sales organizations. These instructors will utilize Saba Enterprise Learning to support initiatives such as new product launches. The second initiative is focused on post-sales training in Germany, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. These initiatives are designed to improve the ability of sales staff in the dealer organizations to effectively sell a range of additional products and services and are developed in close cooperation with the regions to ensure that local requirements are integrated into the training processes.

"Market leaders such as Daimler Chrysler recognize the linkage between the effective training and development of a globally distributed sales organization and improved performance of the company," said Bobby Yazdani, Chairman and CEO of Saba. "Saba provides large organizations with the breadth of functional capabilities, enterprise scalability and depth of experience that is needed to support this kind of worldwide project. We are very pleased to help Daimler Chrysler deploy a management system to help improve the productivity of its people. Daimler Chrysler's selection of Saba is a further reinforcement of our continued leadership in the automotive industry."

The Saba deployment replaced a host-based system that was previously used to manage learning. Daimler Chrysler's criteria for selection of the new platform included the requirement for:

-- A Web-based system to insure that the Learning catalogs could be distributed worldwide

-- The ability to store and manage content

-- The ability to provide flexible reporting capability

-- Support for multiple languages

-- Extensive skills and competency management for users, including the assessment of current skills and knowledge and recommended measures for development

-- The integration of productivity tools such as e-mail and instant messaging

The initial Saba deployment included migrating and archiving 80,000 existing training records for more than 2000 dealer locations, 200 trainers and 400 classrooms. The next phase of the deployment will focus on the integration and administration of skills management, which will allow the creation of individual learner profiles which can be seamlessly combined with the necessary training programs.
