We are doing some background research work looking at Learning Management Strategy , and I am interested in getting some initial input/views from you on what you see as key questions and priorities.
In essence, we see Learning Management (LM) is being about "what, why and how we structure and manage learning for an organisation". LM Strategy should therefore define the strategic context for LM structure, processes and systems, including most obviously as the (often missing) shaper of LMS Strategy. From our research, LM Strategy seems to be emerging as an important area in its own right, maybe being the critical link point between Performance Management, Competencies and Skills, and Learning Strategy (and maybe KM!). Some recent consulting work has also highlighted the importance of a defined LM Strategy to encapsulate the response to key business forces and strategy on the people and learning agenda.
Here are some basic questions that I would be really interested in knowing your initial thoughts on: (Please assume 'you' means you and your organisation)
- do you have an LM Strategy (not LMS Strategy) already - and if so what does it contain?
- do you currently use any LM Maturity model (and if so what?)
- what might the core purpose or value of an LM strategy be?
- what do you see as the key questions to be addressed by an LM Strategy?
- what would be the key linkages to make for an LM Strategy?
- how relevant is a clear LM Strategy to your decisions/work plan over the next 12 months?
We are particularly interested in views from corporates to the above questions. To respond publically, press the comment button above, or alternatively you can email responses directly to davidw@elearnity.com. We are currently planning a specific research project on this topic later in 2005.
Many Thanks.
