InfoBasis announced that it has signed a three-year contract with the UK Ministry of Justice for the use of InfoBasis Enterprise Skills Manager™ v 4.5 (ESM). The Ministry will pilot the capability management platform across its eDelivery Group as part of a toolkit to develop the professionalism of staff under the Cabinet Office sponsored Government IT Profession.

Initially the contract is for 500 licences. The InfoBasis tool underpins development work the Ministry is undertaking on job roles and skills within the IT department, using SFIAplus, the British Computer Society's extended version of the Skills Framework for the Information Age. InfoBasis ESM will be used to consolidate existing descriptions of skills and job roles, and to enable staff assessment and development.

"InfoBasis ESM, which was selected via competitive tender, gives us two important areas of flexibility," explains People and Change Management Officer Jane McDonald. "First, we can customise the workflows and processes to fit the Ministry's way of working. Second, it allows us to use multiple competency frameworks, including the Ministry's own set of core competencies and those from Professional Skills for Government."

Understanding skills through a combination of frameworks is an essential part of the government's Professional Skills for Government (PSG) programme, in which role requirements are defined against one or more groups of competencies. Usually these are a core set of competencies for a Ministry or Department, and a second set relevant for a particular profession.

"The Government IT Profession initiative is an important national initiative," comments InfoBasis CEO Ashley Wheaton. "We look forward to supporting the Ministry of Justice and other parts of central and local government in building this essential profession for the future."
