Xyleme announced that it has integrated its Xyleme LCMS with the EMC Documentum platform. This combined solution eliminates the need for a stand-alone LCMS by providing learning content management as a native application on top of an enterprise content management platform.

Today, most training organizations are forced to work in isolation with departmental learning content management systems that have little or no interoperability with wider enterprise content management initiatives. This prevents training professionals from effectively leveraging valuable content from other parts of the organization for training purposes, forcing duplication of development efforts and redundant versions of the same content. It also limits the role of training organizations by giving them little or no influence on defining an organization's overall content strategy.

The Xyleme LCMS application on EMC Documentum eliminates these issues by utilizing the native content and media repositories of the Documentum platform and leveraging its best-of-breed functionality to achieve three major goals for the training organization:

· Ensuring that learning content is no longer stored in a separate repository, but instead managed with existing enterprise content and ready to be used at the point of performance.
· Providing immediate availability to existing enterprise content services such as collaboration tools, workflow, records management and Web 2.0 technology.
· Enabling SCORM compliant XML learning content to be shared with other departments, including technical documentation.

"We are getting a clear message from the market, especially in today's difficult financial environment, that training content development suffers when organizations are forced to create and maintain separate systems for their learning content," commented Mark Hellinger, President and CEO of Xyleme. "Documentum is a global ECM leader with the most robust XML content store in its class. Leveraging existing IT services and infrastructure will immediately allow our customers to reduce costs, rapidly introduce custom learning products, and easily integrate with Documentum's other best-in-class ECM technologies."
