Elliot Masie in the US comments that "There are a number of serious discussions underway between learning vendors which will lead to mergers or buyouts. Some of this is being driven by a shortage of cash in the banks of some learning start-ups. Others are natural combinations of players in the field." Two examples which are public knowledge which he quotes are:

* Element K has acquires the intellectual property of Mentor Technologies.

* Blackboard announces acquisition of Prometheus from The George Washington University

eLearnity Comment :
The e-learning market continues to churn, both because of its expected consolidation and the current market conditions. There was a natural quietness over the Christmas period, with very little news, but there will definitely be some major news in January and February. Many of the changes will have an impact on Europe, even if they did not originate here. Look out for more announcements.
